Glen Echo – The early years
After a long search in the early
1950’s, Mary and Eddie found
an abandoned logging site in the
Township of King about 30 minutes
north of Toronto, Ontario.
The
rolling hills of this 100-acre tract
of land were covered with mature
beech and maple trees, and were as
wild as when the Indians roamed it.
After
much hard work, Glen Echo opened
on July 1, 1955 with 40 families
joining. They camped in bell tents
and used the spring-fed overflow
from the lake as their shower.
In
1963, a children’s swimming
pool and playground were built. Shortly
afterwards, a five-unit motel and
shower area were completed.
In
1974, a 10,000 square-foot clubhouse
was constructed for complete year-round
use.
Enclosed by a beautiful
forest in the middle of the Oak Ridges
Moraine, this private naturist campground
is yours to enjoy.
